Recently, the word has been that it's cheaper to buy a home than rent in Dallas. But if you MUST rent, then how many hours must I work to afford this?
SmartAsset, a finance website, did a study to find out this.
They collected information on average hours worked per week, average weeks, median annual income and average monthly rent. For Dallas, people must work an average of 61.7 hours each month in order to afford a $863/month monthly rent. SmartAsset estimated an average of $14/hour and 171 hours work each month. Dallas is one of the hardest working cities in this study they pulled. It also came in as the lowest ratios between median total work hours and number of hours work needed to pay rent.
Houston came in at $13.91/hour. San Antonio is $13.53/hour. Austin is $17.52/hour and $1,047 monthly rent, which was the highest for Texans!
