DFW Growing Pains

DFW Growing Pains

As Dallas and the surrounding areas burst with growth and development, traffic and congestion is at an all time high. What use to be a twenty minute commute now takes thirty to forty, depending on weather or time of day. What is the real reason for the constant standstills, wrecks and hours of bumper to bumper traffic? Even as Dallas and the surrounding cities rush to combat this problem with more lanes, toll roads and constant construction the issues seem to be more complicated. Finding the solution require city planners, urban planners, and architects to make egress and ingress into suburbs and the city streamlined and seem less confusing. Getting home using HWY 75 should not feel like using the 405 in La. There are worst Texas cities with traffic nightmares, Houston and Austin are at the top of the list, according to Forbes, Austin is #4 in the nation with workers relocating at a rate of 6.6%. Houston has one of the worst logistics, if you happen to miss an exit, you will need to trudge at least 2-4 miles for the next exit. This is where Dallas shines. There are multiple exits and turn offs that will still get you to your destination ,problem is, 3000 fellow commuters have the same idea. One solution for less traffic is less wrecks. With no less than 70 Colleges and Universities in the DFW area, texting and driving have become a major cause of accidents. Here are  statistics from Onlineschool.com; http://www.textinganddrivingsafety.com/texting-and-driving-stats. How many times while going 70mph you look over and see the person going 80mph face full of cell phone texting away. How about this scenario; you are minding your own business trying to get safely home, the vehicle in front of you swerving from lane to lane, surely this person has to be drunk right? Nope, upon passing them to avoid an almost guaranteed accident you see them texting away driving with their KNEES. Sorry getting off of topic, I am just passionate about this topic which will be in my next blog stay tuned. Back to traffic in DFW, accidents are not the only thing  that causes us to lose our religion bumper to bumper. Constant construction is also a huge issue. Although it may make future commutes faster, this was not the case for HWY75. After years of construction to expand and make more lanes alas this has not resolved the gridlock on 75. So what are some solutions, carpool, Uber, public transportation, helicopter. Whatever the future holds for commuters, we know for sure it includes more people relocating to the DFW for work and business which is good, just don't lose your religion while arduously getting around DFW.   mailto:http://ray@rogershealy.comRayJFloyd.
