Five Curb Appeal Ideas To Help You Get Ready For Selling Your Home

Five Curb Appeal Ideas To Help You Get Ready For Selling Your Home

1.  Update your front door color

"First impression is the last impression".  And you want to make sure that when a buyer walks up to your door, their first impression is that of a home that is well taken care of.  A layer of fresh paint can do wonders.  Burgundy is a good choice, and so are dark shades as they can be happy, welcoming colors. Surveys show that homebuyers say they prefer doors that are white or red. The next most popular colors are bluegreen and brown.

2.  Clean up the clutter

Clean out old pots and put away any gardening tools so they are out of your site.  Keep your outside looking clean and crisp.  The pool area (if you have one) should be free of any "extras" such as pool cleaning equipment or toys.

3. Lighten up the exterior

Add a touch of elegance with outdoor lighting. Outdoor lighting also increases the safety of a home. Go beyond ordinary lampposts and wall-mounted lighting to make the landscaping “really stand out,” by installing “stylish and modern” lighting on your front porch. Incorporate lights along walkways and on flower boxes for added appeal. Clean any outdoor lights and lamps to ensure they are free of cobwebs and replace any non-working bulbs.

4. Beautify the landscaping

A beautiful lawn with flowers in the front of a home will add vibrancy and make your home more visually appealing to prospective buyers. In addition to planting flowers or trees, be sure to remove any weeds and overgrowth to give your house a clean, tidy look. Trim your shrubs and any trees in your front and back yard to make them look appealing.

5. Create an outdoor living space

A small coffee table with a couple of chairs, with outdoor candles creates an inviting atmosphere for tea or coffee.  Bring what's inviting to you inside your house, to the outside. A beautifully crafted backyard can seal the deal for those potential buyers that might be on the fence.  According to, including a few pieces of furniture on the porch can yield a 40 percent to 60 percent return on investment.
