2 Way Street Proposal in the works for Mckinney Avenue!!
Urban planner Patrick Kennedy, who was hired by Uptown Dallas, Inc., to propose a redesign of the one-way portions of Cole, Carlisle, Allen and Mckinney avenues. Kennedy pitched the idea Monday evening to about 200 people at the Church of the Incarnation on Mckinney.
Supporters see it as an opportunity for the neighborhood to become a safe urban paradise in a city that relies heavily on freeways and cars. Other residents see it as an unnecessary change sure to create congestion and other problems on taxpayers’ dimes.
The two-way supporters have a sympathetic ear at City Hall. Their council member, Philip Kingston, said something had to be done, especially after pedestrian Emily Javadi was fatally struck by a car last year.
“What is out there today can’t remain,” Kingston said. “Something must change. There are 50 mph speeds during lots of times of the week right next to people’s front doors. I can no longer have that.”
