Did You Move In 2016 You May Be Able To Deduct Your Moving Expenses

DALLAS, TX. – Did you move in 2016? If so, there’s no denying that moving can also bring with it major expenses but the good news is that with your move you may be able to deduct your moving expenses from your 2016 taxes.

How to Deduct Your Moving Expenses

To claim this deduction, your move must have been due to a new job or change in your employer’s location—in other words, not primarily because you found a house with a killer kitchen. Your new job must also be at least 50 miles farther away than your old job was from your old home, says Josh Zimmelman, owner of NY-based accounting firm Westwood Tax & Consulting.

That might sound like a confusing math problem at first glance, but it’s actually pretty simple. For example, if your old home was 10 miles away from your job, your new job location must be at least 60 miles away from your old home. Got it?
